Picture Book - Confidence Project

Perfection - Confidence Project

For my portfolio class i was assigned to developed a project in which I explore the themes of impostor syndrome and the the Dunning-Kruger effect. I decided to create a picture book following the story of Capi, a capybara who struggles with self-worth, causing him to hop between Impostor Syndrome and the Dunning-Kruger effect. Capi is one of the characters from the Capinocchio shortfilm I’ve been working on. He’s very flawed and temperamental, so I thought he would be the perfect choice to explore the duality of the theme and how it becomes a vicious cycle when we deny the help of those around us.

BOOK SUMMARY:

Capi is very talented at woodcarving, he sees himself as a very confident guy but his confidence plumets as soon as he sees other capibaras’ stands at his local crafts market. Capi believes his works are not worthy to be put to sale, so he starts seeing his work become a big monster that follows him wherever he goes.

BOOK DETAILS:

8.5”x 11”, 32-page book, which is the standard number of pages for a picture book. I’ll be designing the cover and illustrations inside.

The book will be narrated in second person, as if it were a letter written to the character himself.
